THE QUEEN KILLING KINGS
Saturday, February 13th
8PM / 21+/ $5

As their name may indicate, The Queen Killing Kings is an unusual act. Eschewing the classic rock line-up, they feature two keyboardists and no guitars. Their lyrics are filled with references to demons, witches, and condemned killers, yet they’re hardly gloom-filled Goths; instead, their music is inviting and catchy. So how do they describe their musical approach? "It's just rock-n-roll," declares singer/songwriter/pianist Coley O'Toole. "People try to tag us 'prog' or 'art-rock,' but to me it’s just a slightly different way of playing rock music."

DARIK & THE FUNBAGS
Friday, February 26th
8PM / 21+/ $8

They started playing Connecticut in 1997 and have since grown our territory faster than a door-to-door Jehovah's Witness, with gigs in five New England States. Like the Big E, but naughtier. They play New York and New Jersey, too... But that doesn't seem to impress the puritans back home. They have been featured on VH-1's Cover Wars, so you can see they have national exposure too! Although they like to think we they're too "bad ass" to be corporate darlings, they've hit that circuit too... with appearances at the Greater Hartford Open Golf Tournament, the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament, The Major League LaCrosses National Championships, and the Yale Bowl. The Ivy Leaguers love them.
Beatles A to Z
(Beatles Tribute)

Sun, February 28th
5PM / 21+/ $10

..It all begins with the Beatles. The music they recorded. The influence they left behind. One evening in March of 2006, Tim Palmieri and Sean Miller were playing music together. Sean was showing Tim how to play "Dear Prudence" when the two musicians thought, "What if two people tried to play every Beatles song that was recorded alphabetically from A to Z?"

Thus became the concept of The Beatles A-Z project. The two musicians have been influenced by The Beatles since first being introduced to the music at an early age, which contributed to their vast knowledge of the music, lyrics and the nuances you hear in the original recordings. Their role in presenting this project is to perform each song just as the original recordings were recorded; all the while making each song their own. Another purpose for presenting this, that Tim and Sean both agreed upon, is to share their enthusiasm and passion of the Fab Four.

An Evening with...The Feelies

8PM / 21+/ $18 ($15 ADV)

In a uniquely awesome way, the Feelies connected the dots between the layered groove of the Velvet Underground and the nonchalant nerd-dom of Modern Lovers plus the bliss-y rhythms of post-VU-ers Yo La Tengo. Formed in Haledon NJ in 1976, The Feelies released 4 albums- including their critically acclaimed and influential debut Crazy Rhythms, which was voted 49 in the top 100 albums of the 1980s by Rolling Stone magazine and chosen by Spin Magazine as 49 of the best alternative records of all time. The twin-guitar attack of songwriters and founders Glenn Mercer and Bill Million is the infectious sound of the group. Paired with driving drums and percussion, it has left an indelible mark on the landscape of rock and roll.
THE BERNADETTES
Saturday, April 3rd
8PM / 21+/ $5

Those who have seen the band perform live in their latest incarnation might be surprised to know that the Bernadettes started out in the early 1990s as a traditional-style blues band, covering songs by the likes of John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, as well as later bluesmen like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. But the band soon began experimenting with their own unique versions of R&B classics from James Brown, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and their contemporaries. This evolved further with the addition of classic Motown hits, contemporary funk, soul, and R&B flavored rock songs to their large and varied, dance-oriented song list. The resulting mix has become the staple of the band's offering to live audiences. Continuous appearances at a variety of venues have established the Bernadettes as one of the area's premier live acts. They were voted the best rhythm and blues band in the New Haven Advocate "Sounds of New Haven" 1996 readers poll, and also chosen by that paper as New Haven's #1 bar band. A constantly growing songlist, matched with the band's frenetic brand of soul, make for a memorable evening for anyone who wants to move their feet and dance to the beat.

The Depreciation Guild

Serena-Maneesh take their Spacemen 3 obsession and drag it kicking and screaming through the detuned murk of classic Sonic Youth, the psychedelic freakout of Hawkwind and the slow build cinematic roar of Mogwai and Godspeed. This is spaced out psychedelic drug rock of the highest order for sure, but Serena-Maneesh add their own special slant to the proceedings, twisting these tracks into all sorts of dronier and dreamier shapes, cool boy / girl harmonies, hushed whispery sadboy vocals backed up by delicate dreamy female coo's and ooh's, both woven together into still more layers of sweet warm gauze, BIG guitars, not wispy or delicate, okay maybe once in a while, but mostly thick, crunchy and HEAVY riffs that just churn and grind, like there's no end in sight. Our heads crack open spilling blinding light into the sky, as we drift and shimmer and are lifted into some blissed out drone rock nirvana like we haven't experienced since the heyday of bands like The Spacemen 3. From Oslo, Norway.

The Depreciation Guild The Depreciation Guild is a fuzzed-out, reverb drenched pop/electronic group consisting of Kurt Feldman (guitar, vocals, programming), Christoph Hochheim (guitar, vocals), and Anton Hochheim (drums). Backed solely by a Nintendo Entertainment System, the band blankets their sound with the crushing blows of its 8-Bit 2A03 sound chip. Drawing inspiration from classic dream-pop bands such as Pale Saints, and Cocteau Twins, as well as 80’s synth-pop masters such as Bill Nelson, Gangway, Scritti Politti and YMO, The Depreciation Guild have artfully cultivated a unique sound that strikes a balance between progressive and retro-chic. With a heavy-handed approach and a sound that crashes like thunder, HIGH ON FIRE has put the power back in 'power-trio'. Less a band than a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume and sheer heaviness, the band has burned the metal rulebook and forged a new archetype. HIGH ON FIRE was formed by guitarist Matt Pike in late summer 1998. Formed out of the need to simply play guitar again, Pike jammed with and settled on a line-up of powerhouse drummer Des Kensel and longtime guitarist friend George Rice, who made the switch to bass to round out the trio. In the summer of 2004, HIGH ON FIRE was joined by bassist Joe Preston (THRONES / ex-MELVINS). Preston replaced Rice, and made his live debut on a 14 city U.S. trek that concluded in Chicago, IL where the band entered Electrical Audio Studios with engineer Steve Albini to record Blessed Black Wings. Blessed Black Wings exploded onto the scene. From the start the band hit the road and traveled the world, playing esteemed festivals such as All Tomorrows Party (at the request of The Mars Volta), Dour (Belgium), Quart (Norway), Intonation (Chicago), Hellfest (France), as well as the inaugural Sounds of the Underground Tour. Additionally, the band headlined internationally with the likes of MASTODON, CLUTCH, GWAR, and many more. Preston was replaced toward the end of the touring cycle by former ZEKE bassist Jeff Matz.

Priestess is a Canadian rock band formed, in Montreal, Quebec in 2003 by Mikey Heppner (vocals/guitar), Mike Dyball (bass), Vince Nudo (vocals/drums), and Dan Watchorn (vocals/guitar). Mike Heppner was playing with The Dropouts at the time when three of its members headed to New York to form The Stills. Left on his own, Heppner formed a new band: Priestess. In 2005, the band released their debut album, Hello Master. The release was issued via Indica in Canada and on Ace Fu in the U.S. A major-label recording contract with RCA followed in January 2006.North American tour dates opening for Dinosaur Jr. followed that spring. Priestess toured with The Sword, Early Man, Diamond Nights, Black Label Society, Black Stone Cherry, Converge, Mastodon and thrash metal pioneers Megadeth as a part of their “Tour Of Duty” tour in June of 2007.

Black Cobra is a doom metal and sludge band from Los Angeles, California. The band was formed in 2001 by Jason Landrian and Rafael Martinez (who is also the current bassist for Acid King).

Bison B.C. When Bison took its first step amps were scorched and drums were smashed. Born of the ashes of seminal Vancouver skate-thrash band S.T.R.E.E.T.S., Bison are every head banger’s dream. Their riffs are colossal and flow like a mighty river into a sea of fuzzed out shredding. Their message is punk rock angst and revolution, with the occasional nod to white wizards, the king of swine and a mythical beast called the “Stokasaurus”.

With the release of One and Nine, their fourth studio album, Shilelagh Law has cemented its reputation as the true standard bearer of New York’s proud Irish musical heritage.
